Synopsis

A trip to China by Maestro Gian Vittorio Baldi, on the occasion of his retrospective in Beijing. He is accompanied by Tatti Sanguineti and Roberto Silvestri.

GIAN VITTORIO BALDI:

Graduated in Public Opinion Sciences, with a thesis on sound in cinematographic work, he made a series in 10 episodes, with the commentary of Silvio Negro, entitled 50 years of Italian history (1958).

Apart from the films he made as a director (which he almost always wrote himself), Baldi produced Trio (1967) by Gianfranco Mingozzi, Diary of a Schizophrenic (1968) by Nelo Risi, Chronicle of Anna Magdalena Bach (1968) by Danièle Huillet and Jean-Marie Straub, Baltagul (1969) by Mircea Muresan, East Wind (1969) by Jean-Luc Godard, Porcile (1969) and Notes for an African Orestiade (1970) by Pier Paolo Pasolini, Conjugal Love (1970) by Dacia Maraini, Four Nights of a Dreamer (1971) by Robert Bresson, About Angola (1971) by Stefano De Stefani, One More Emotion (1979) by Francesco Longo and La guérilléra (1982) by Pierre Kast.

Called by Adelio Ferrero, he collaborated for a few years at DAMS in Bologna where he taught "Filmology". In that context he wrote The expressive language of sound and the musical commentary in the cinematographic work (Valgimigli, 1978).

In a series dedicated to him at the Cooperativa Nuovi Quaderni di San Gimignano, he has published Il cinema di Gian Vittorio Baldi: macchina da presa di coscienza (introduction, interviews, comments) and the screenplays of La casa delle vedove (1980), Luciano (1980), Fuoco! (1979), The Night of Flowers (1979), Hard Years (1980) and The Last Day of School Before the Christmas Holidays (1979), each with a note by Pietro M. Toesca. In 1995 he collected 9 short stories in the book Variances (Bologna: Mobydick). And in 2002 the book on his fiction film set in Sarajevo: Nevrijeme-il temporale: il progetto, l'errore, la ricerca (at Hypermedia in Faenza, where Baldi is president of a small film school).
