Side notes - Notes for a film on July 7

1960 is considered by many historians to be a watershed date in the Italian twentieth century. The Tambroni government was formed with the support of the neo-fascists and this (just 15 years after the fall of Mussolini) unleashed strikes and protest demonstrations throughout Italy.

In Reggio Emilia, the communist city par excellence, on July 7 a peaceful demonstration was bloodily suppressed by the police: five dead, young or very young, and dozens injured. Following those events, the Tambroni government fell and the reform season of the center-left began. Through the writer Paolo Nori, who dedicated a novel to those events in 2006 (Noi la farem vendetta, ed. Feltrinelli), the documentary traces the chronicle of that summer of '60 and, at the same time, casts a restless look at the present of a provincial Emilian city, of the young people who live there, of a left in desperate search of itself:
