Born in Imola, in 1984, Margherita Ferri approached the world of experimental theater and cinema during her high school years. As a collegiate she continued to shoot short films on her own. The films '''Violacielo''' (2004) and '''Ramiro''' (2005), produced by the City of Bologna, collected special mentions in several Italian Festivals. In 2005-2006, thanks to a scholarship, she attended for one year the School of Film and TV at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) where she completed the short film '''1-800-CALL-GOD''' and the documentary '''20mg.''' about college students and abuse of ADD medications. Back to Italy, she graduated in Communication Science at University of Bologna with a final dissertation about transgender imagery in the Italian television. At the same time she started her collaboration as film programmer for Gender Bender Festival in Bologna. In 2007 she worked as production assistant and second assistant director on two Italian features, she taught filmmaking fundamentals to teenagers in schools and she organized queer events. She made a documentary about the journey of a hundred mentally disabled people from Venice to Beijing by train. In January 2008 she started the Directing Program at the National School of Cinema in Rome. She directed the short film '''Extra Time''', a love story among bullies, and the surreal '''Aiko''' 35mm. She worked as a filmmaker for the TV program Transeurope on All Music channel. In 2009 she directed '''Rambo&Milena''' and wrote the script of a feature film that won'''t ever be made. In 2010 she worked as second assistant director for a major Italian production company, BiBi Film, and she completed her first feature documentary: '''Where the Elephant is'''. In 2011 Margherita worked as documentary camera operator for Cyrano New Media and as second unit director for the feature film '''Cosimo e Nicole''' produced by Cattleya and Faro Film.
